Final Grade Calculator

Final Grade Calculator

The big question: what do I need on my final? Enter three numbers and get your exact target score.

You need on the final
–

TL;DR Needed on final = (goal − current × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight.

“What do I need on my final?” Every student asks it. Enter your current grade, the grade you are aiming for and how much the final exam is worth, and this final grade calculator gives you the exact score you need.

How to use it

  1. Current grade: your grade in the class right now, before the final.
  2. Grade you want: your target for the class, or tap a quick goal (A, B, C, pass).
  3. Final exam weight: the percentage of your overall grade the final is worth. Check your syllabus.

The formula

Required final score = (Goal − Current × (1 − Weight)) ÷ Weight, with the weight written as a decimal.

Example: current grade 82%, goal 85%, final worth 30% → (85 − 82 × 0.7) ÷ 0.3 = 92.0% needed on the final.

Tips to hit your target

  • Start revising at least a week early and use short, focused sessions with our Pomodoro timer.
  • Practice with past papers and active recall instead of re-reading notes.
  • Ask your teacher about extra credit or which topics carry the most marks.

Frequently asked questions

What if the calculator says I need more than 100%?

It means your goal cannot be reached through the final alone. Ask about extra credit, or set a more realistic target.

What if it shows a negative number?

Congratulations: you have already secured that grade, even if you score zero on the final (not that we recommend it).

Does this work for any grading scale?

Yes. As long as your grades are in percentages and you know the final exam weight, the formula works for any class.
